Get to know the Highveld Region
Although the Highveld Region do not have a Park which is situated in its geographical area, we are fortunate enough to be relatively close to the KNP.
Our members assist Kruger National Park with various duties, ranging form Gate Duty, Caravan/Camping Duty, Hut/Camp inspections to Road patrols and more, even assisting Alien Invasive Task Group in their efforts with invader points.
Our members come from a wide area across the Highveld such as Belfast, Groblersdal, Middelburg, Secunda, Witbank, and even Balfour. Our region’s chairperson is Willie de Beer, who practises as a lawyer, with our Vice-Chairperson being Hoffie Sutherland.
The rest of the region’s Regional Committee Members are as follows: Anja Botha is responsible for the secretarial duties, Dennis Botha is in charge of the finances and training is done by Hoffie Sutherland. Deon Pienaar is heading the portfolio of Alien Invaders, Lizet Kotze teaming up the Junior HR’s, with Lukas Oosthuizen and Paul Venter running Vet & Wildlife Services and Counter Poaching respectively.
Meetings are held on a monthly to six-week basis, rotating between Belfast, Groblersdal and Middelburg. Meetings are held on Monday evenings, 18h30. Some of our meetings are held at a Nature Reserve, or a game farm to share our knowledge amongst each other and enjoy a day together as a region.
One of the main focus areas in terms of fundraising is the Sand River Bush Camp near Skukuza, where most of the members have been or will be involved with this bush camp during the allocated camps for the year. Marius Scholtz has been designated as Bush Camp Coordinator for the year and funds raised will go towards tagging of trees in various camps, also possibly upgrading of Berg-en-Dal Bushbraai or any other area that we are able to support SANParks.
On an ongoing basis we also assist with money collecting tins for Anti-Poaching and are planning to do the same for Alien Invasive Task Group.
