Thabazimbi Expo: Marakele National Park Tours
30 April to 3 May 2005
The Thabazimbi Expo is an annual event which takes place on the weekend closest to 1st May. The dates this year are from 30th April – 3rd May. It was formerly known as the Thabazimbi Wildsfees and this describes the theme of the show. It attracts many visitors from Gauteng.
The Honorary Rangers, Marakele Region pay for, decorate and man a stand at the show where they give out information about Marakele National Park to the public. They also sell 2 game drives per day which include meals at Kwaggasvlakte: an early morning drive followed by a hearty breakfast and an afternoon drive followed by supper. Both these drives take participants on a game drive through the park and on the breathtaking scenic drive up to the towers atop the Waterberg Range near to the Cape Vulture colony. The drives are done by the Park staff and the Park’s one game drive vehicle is supplemented by 2 others which are sponsored by Imperial Truck Hire. The catering is done by the Marakele Honorary Rangers aided by the Marakele Caterers, a local group who have been trained by the Honorary Rangers. Through this venture many people who have never been to Marakele before have been exposed to this beautiful and wildlife rich park. This year there will also be the option to partake in guided walks in the park. Manning the expo and providing the opportunity to explore the park in unique ways is used as a fundraiser by the Honorary Ranger region, the funds from which are put towards activities and facilities in Marakele National Park.
Contact details for persons wanting to book in advance will be added soon.
